Technology is the use and knowledge of tools, techniques, crafts and systems, methods of organization in order to solve a problem.
There are many types of technologies which can be classified on different basis. Here are some of the types of technologies:
Technology of teaching:
The technology of teaching includes the instructional approaches that are very systematically designed and applied in very specific ways. Such approaches typically include the use of well-defined objectives and precise instructional procedures based upon student requirements.
Assistance technology:
Assistance technology is used to create various types of products or services and devices, designed to help people with disabilities. Assistance technologies include mechanical, electronic and microprocessor-based equipment, non-mechanical and non-electronic aids, and specialized instructional materials, services, and strategies.
Medical technology:
There are huge changes in the field of medicine regarding surgical treatment of diseases and the development of drugs. Many individuals require the support of medical technology to stay alive. It is not uncommon to see people in their home and community settings using medical technology.
Information technology:
Information technologies are designed to gain access to knowledge and resources on a wide range of topics at our finger tips. The Internet and its World Wide Web component, is the most prominent example of information technology. The ERIC system enables people to search and locate much of the world’s educational literature on a given topic.
Survival technologies:
These provide basic support for increasing number of people. These technologies are very much essential for the existence of humans, as they provide support for their day to day activities. These also include lifesaving technologies at the time of unexpected events.
War technologies:
Developed during times of war or conflict. Starting with swords, guns, ammunition, canon and armors, the technology in this field has seen rapid development.
Science technologies:
Astronomy, medical, natural and social sciences come under science technologies. Some other technologies, like environmental, railway, transportation and public health technologies are evolved from science technologies.
The above mentioned technologies, have their own applications in their respective fields and are found to evolve very rapidly.
