A server is a computer program running as a service to serve the needs or requests of other programs. Today many types of servers are used to protect the internal network for hosting websites. Below are the list of severs used in the market today:

Proxy Servers:
Proxy servers filters requests, improves performance and shares connections. They are in between a client program and an external server.

Web Servers:
A web server serves static content to a web browser by loading a file from a disk and serving it across the network to a user’s Web browser. This entire exchange is mediated by the browser and server talking to each other using HTTP.

Mail Servers:
This is a crucial server for corporates as it move and store mail over corporate networks and across the internet.

Application Servers:
These servers occupy a large chunk of computing territory between database servers and the end user. They are also some times referred as middle ware.

Collaboration Servers:
Collaboration software called as groupware, is used to collaborate, regardless of location, via the Internet or a corporate intranet and to work together in a virtual atmosphere.

Telnet Servers:
These servers enables users to log on to a host computer and perform tasks as if they’re working on the remote computer.

FTP Servers:
These can be expanded as file transfer protocol and this makes possible to move one or more files securely between computers while providing file security, organization as well as transfer control. It is one of the oldest internet services.

Real Time Communication Servers:
These can also be called as chat servers or IRC Servers or instant messaging servers. These are useful for exchanging information.

Virtual Servers:
Server virtualization is present every where in a data center and the number of virtual servers are increased than the number of physical servers.

Open Source Servers:
Open source software is very important to many IT infrastructures.
