Flowering shrubs are those which have woody stems whose branches form an intricate network. They mostly grow to about 10 to 20 feet and become the focal points for any garden in a landscape.

You can plant the flowering shrubs side-by-side or between other types as they make great garden borders. Some people opt to plant flowering shrubs to have some privacy by shielding the home. The rich leaves of some shrubs even absorb sound and hence, some home owners opt to plant flowering shrubs for controlling noise. It is not that difficult to grow and maintain flowering shrubs. They just require regular watering and some fertilizing. However, do not forget to prune frequently to maintain the shape. They can be trained to certain directions of growth for creating a beautiful look in the landscape.

There are many varieties of flowering shrubs that you can add to your garden. Weigela is one variety which shows more growth in spring. However, it can even thrive adverse conditions and remain beautiful all season long. This shrub can be grown easily. Lilac shrubs are the other favorite flowering shrubs which come in a variety of colors like red, pink, lilac, blue and white. They have excellent growth in sunny weather and soils that drain well. It is lovely to have lilac shrubs in your garden as they attract butterflies and bees. They also require occasional pruning after flowering and some mulch as fertilizer. Forsythia, Hydrangea, knock out roses, Viburnum, Cercis and Roses are some other flowering shrubs that you can add to your garden.
